MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A cyclist wants answers from Milwaukee County after a steel cable injured him while biking near the Linnwood Water Plant.

Ronald Ekker was biking along the Oak Leaf Trail when a thin, steel cable fell down and wrapped around his neck, leaving him with scars and burns.

“I was -- I thought I was going to be decapitated; however, it came to an end and the wire just reeled out," said Ekker.

The incident happened in the afternoon Sept. 18. Ekker was on his weekly bike ride going down the trail.

"I can’t get out every day, but when I can, I come down here," said Ekker. "I thought it was a kite string at first, I didn’t know, and it grabbed my neck. It happened so fast, but it felt like slow motion, you know?”

Ekker called 911 and told officers but says he didn't get any answers about why the cable was there or how it broke. A week later, the cables were back up,

“The wire that went across my neck is similar to the wire they ran across there now," said Ekker.

In a statement to CBS 58, Milwaukee County Parks wrote, "The County Parks is unable to comment on the incident at this time because it is currently under internal investigation."

“Why on earth would you guys put up another one after somebody could almost have lost their life by it?" said Ekker.

He says he wants answers, and he wants the cables gone.

“I thought I was gonna be decapitated. That’s all I thought," said Ekker. "There was nothing I could do, absolutely nothing.”
