DELAFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- K-9 Tesla, a beloved therapy dog who served with the Lake Country Fire Department, has died. This, according to a social media post shared Monday, April 14.
"We won't sugarcoat it....this isn't ok. We are heartbroken," the post reads in part. "We can’t imagine life without her and we know this will impact many of you too. For that, we want you to know we are so incredibly sorry."
Tesla died surrounded by family just before noon on Monday.
CBS 58 featured Tesla in a story on "CBs 58 Sunday Morning."
Her handler, Assistant Chief Matt Haerter, flipped the bill for her years of training to be able to provide his colleagues and community with a service dog.
"Through our time together, we were so fortunate to be present for so much. She had an incredible ability to turn the tragic to the tolerable and being a small part of that has been indescribable.
Please take time to make someone’s life better today and everyday in Tesla’s name. We owe her that.
Here’s to one incredible pup."
