CBS 58 MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Governor Tony Evers on Wednesday, June 17, held a flag raising outside of the state Capitol building in anticipation of Juneteenth on Friday, June 19.
Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery in the United States, while celebrating civil rights trailblazers who have made their impact in Wisconsin, and across the country.
Evers said diversity has always been our strength here in Wisconsin, but there is always more we can do.
"We must continue to move forward together towards a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and welcomed without fear of discrimination, period," Evers said.
This is the seventh year in the row the flag will be raised outside of the state Capitol.
It will fly throughout the weekend.
