MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Getting started on Tuesday was 19-year-old Milwaukee Democrat Kalan Haywood II, the youngest State Representative in the country.
Last week, Haywood held an in-district swearing-in ceremony at Cardinal Stritch University where he is a student.
Haywood says he's letting the entire experience soak in.
Now that he's in office, he says he has a deep sense of responsibility.
"Getting this job and getting elected does not sink in until you sit in this seat," said Rep. Kalan Haywood. "Years ago, someone sat in this same seat and hand the same job as me so there's history and this whole experience is a lot to take in. There's so much to take in and it's been overwhelming but it's a good overwhelming.
Assembly Democrats announced committee assignments on Tuesday.
Haywood was assigned to five committees including Housing & Real estate and Veterans & Military Affairs.
