Kenosha man accused of fatally stabbing man held on $1.5M bond
KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Kenosha man accused of stabbing an Illinois man and his dog will be held on a $1.5 million cash bond.
52-year-old Andrew Pfannkuche and his dog Jake called the 8500 block of 18th Avenue home for just 72 hours.
On Monday, Pfannkuche and Jake were found stabbed to death in their new residence.
“He had just purchased the home here in Kenosha recently,” said Lt. Joshua Hecker with the Kenosha Police Department.
Kenosha Police arrested 41-year-old Justin Tercek a few hours later.
“What’s described here is a brutal slaying inside a man’s own home,” said Andrew Burgoyne, the deputy district attorney in court. “It was 25 knife wounds is what’s in the preliminary autopsy. He also killed his dog, Jake.”
Tercek now faces multiple felony charges including first-degree intentional homicide.
“To have that person in custody in four hours is incredible,” said Lt. Hecker.
Law enforcement officers say the home Pfannkuche bought belonged to Tercek’s late grandmother.
“Defendant was apparently upset that Mr. Pfannkuche had purchased what used to be his grandmother’s home,” said Burgyone.
According to the criminal complaint, Tercek had entered the residence at 1 in the morning on Monday and asked Pfannkuche what he was doing in the home. Tercek left but first took a set of keys to the home without Pfannkuche knowing.
“So, there was some contact between the two of them prior to this,” said Lt. Hecker.
Around 11:30 Pfannkuche came home to a smashed door and send a picture of it to his realtor.
Around 2:30 that afternoon, Tercek’s aunt and uncle arrived at the home to apologize to Pfannkuche and that’s when they noticed blood inside the home and Pfannkuche’s dog Jake, sound like it was in pain. That’s when they called the police.
“This residence meant something to him. Why he was going there, I don’t know,” said Hecker.
Pfannkuche’s family described him and his dog as “best friends.”
