Kenosha man charged with several counts of tavern burglaries

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's a sigh of relief for Kenosha tavern owners who've been on high alert since the first of the year after a series of break-ins. Police arrested the man they believe is responsible for busting glass doors to gain access after hours.

Kenosha police took 46-year-old Richard Steinhofer into custody. He's now tied to eight of Kenosha's 10 tavern burglaries that all happened in the last month. Police give a lot of credit in solving the case to tavern owners, they say got together and started looking for suspicious characters and reported their findings to police.

"He was mainly targeting, going for cash. He was seen going through cash registers, trying to take pull tabs, gaming machines, and trying to break into gaming machines," said Lt. Joseph Nosalik.

Police say all of the tavern burglaries happened on third shift. He was taken into custody last week.
