Kenosha police investigate multiple overnight shootings

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Kenosha police responded to two separate shooting incidents within minutes of each other Thursday night, July 29.

Authorities say the first incident happened around 4:52 p.m., when police responded to a residence near 55th and 22nd when they heard shots being fired.

Police responded to that scene and the suspect ran into a home, refusing to exit.

A perimeter was established around the home and after several hours of communication the suspect decided to exit and peacefully surrender to uniformed Kenosha police officers.

The suspect in the incident is a 20-year-old Kenosha resident.

That person was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Kenosha County Jail.

Officials say the expected charges of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety and felon in possession of a firearm will be referred to the Kenosha County District Attorney.

The suspect will not be named until charges have been submitted.

The second event of the night occurred just six minutes later around 4:58 p.m. when police responded to a shooting in the area of 52nd and 19th.

The victim, Hector Rodriguez Rojas, a 30-year-old Kenosha resident, was fatally shot.

Kenosha police reportedly worked well into the morning and developed suspect information which led to the arrest of the suspected shooter.

That unnamed suspect is in custody and appropriate charges are expected to be referred to the Kenosha County District Attorney.

The suspect will not be named until charges have been submitted.

Authorities say there is no danger to our community regarding these two unrelated incidents.
