911 calls, new bodycam video reveal timeline of Kenosha fire that killed 3 kids on Thanksgiving
KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 has obtained new records from the Kenosha Police Department, revealing the timeline of the deadly apartment fire that claimed the lives of three children on Thanksgiving night.
Records show dispatchers received 12 calls in under four minutes about the fire that claimed the lives of 10-year-old Rylee, 9 year-old Connor, and 7-year-old Alena Kannin that devastating night.
“I think my neighbor’s house is on fire,” the first caller told dispatch. “It’s just black. It’s just black.”
Records show dispatchers received the first call about the fire at 10:39 p.m.
Just two minutes later, Kenosha police arrived at the scene, and at this point the fire can be seen at the front door of the apartment.
“Don’t, don’t go in. It’s too much,” an officer tells a bystander.
“But there’s kids in there,” the bystander is heard responding.
“It’s gonna blow up if you go in there, man,” the officer replies.
Officers looked for other entry points, but the back door of the apartment was also engulfed in flames.
“We’re not gonna be able to go in,” officers can be heard saying on bodycam.
A search warrant reveals Joshua Kannin, the father of the children, told investigators when he woke up, he saw a "a little fire" on the kitchen floor and went searching for help. In the search warrant, Kannin told investigators he had a cigarette in the kitchen by the sink but believed he extinguished that cigarette before going to sleep.
Right after the fire, records show Kenosha police seized Kannin’s phone but did not find any evidence related to the fire.
Around four minutes after the first 911 call, Kenosha firefighters arrived at the scene – a scene that nearly two weeks later, Kenosha police are still investigating for answers.
