LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- What is usually one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year in Lake Geneva has turned into a weekend of grief and cleanup after powerful storms swept through the area Friday.

Three children were killed after their boat capsized on Geneva Lake during the storm. At the same time, high winds caused widespread damage across Walworth County, toppling trees and damaging homes.

One of those trees crashed into the Decubellis family's home, leaving it uninhabitable.

"Almost every tree here is broken. You can see the front of the house how crooked the windows are because the whole house has shifted from the weight of the tree," Joeseph Decubellis said.

Kathy Decubellis said she and her daughter were inside the home when the tree came down.

"We were in the living room and I saw it coming and I told my daughter to grab the baby and get in the basement," she said.

The family said the home is now too dangerous to enter. Many of their belongings remain trapped inside,.

"I looked at the tree, my first thought was I need to call the doctor and get insulin because that's all upstairs," she said.

The family is now staying in a camper while they wait to rebuild the home they lived in for 13 years.

The storm's deadly impact came on Geneva Lake, where authorities said three children died after a boat capsized during severe weather.

"It's very hard, it's a very hard thing, and we're trying to keep our spirits up as much as we can," Baker House server and bartender Haley Hoekstra said.

As residents continue cleaning up damage and mourning the children who died, many say the community is leaning on one another.

“It’s been a very heavy weekend especially with everything that’s been going on but we’re trying our best to celebrate the 4th of July and the people that have sacrificed everything for us all of our heroes, police department, fire department," Hoekstra added.
