BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- So many of us are ready to make New Year's resolutions centered around having better overall health and being more fit.

But the folks at Life Time Brookfield say just doing a few things right now before the holidays even begin can really get you pointing in the right direction and ahead of the game.

Lunges and squats are two great exercises working your central core, and you don't necessarily need to be in a gym to do them.

Another piece of advice is to try to work all the muscles you can wherever you can.  Of course, just walking and being active in general can help keep you from packing on the extra calories.

In terms of making resolutions, the trainers say to make small, attainable goals and buddy up with someone else for accountability.
