Lilo the dog still seeking forever home after 1-year anniversary at HAWS

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 4-year-old Pitbull mix has officially been at the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS) for one year as of Sunday, Sept. 19.

Lilo, the adoptable dog, has spent many hours outside of the shelter, participating in daily training activities and going on field trips in the community with HAWS' Mod Squad volunteers. Officials say Lilo has also worked with animal behavior students from Carroll University, and even attended corporate networking events with HAWS' Mobile Adoption team.

“While Lilo has some special considerations for adoption, we are not sure why her forever home has not yet been found,” notes Executive Director Lynn Olenik. “She is smart and playful, and will thrive in the right environment. We are going to make sure Lilo finds the home she deserves!”

Since HAWS is an open admission, no-kill shelter, pets like Lilo are welcomed for as long as it takes to find their forever homes.

If you're interested in adopting Lilo, here are some guidelines to know:

  • She will need to be the only pet in the home
  • She will be happy to share her home with children, as long as they are teenagers or older
  • Daily exercise and enrichment are a must for her due to her energy level
