Lions and Packers fans feel out the tension ahead of game

CBS 58

DETROIT, MI. (CBS 58) -- CBS 58's Sports Director Lance Allan got street level in Detroit to get the pulse of the fans on both sides from a Lions fan store in the shadows of Ford Field.

From one side, a fan from Lions nation.

"I've had season tickets since 2023 and it's growing each year," said Lions fan Matt Meckley. "I think there's a little bandwagonism."

And on the other side, proud Green Bay Packers fan Tom Connelly, "I think we're going to win. The Green Bay Packers are going to beat the Detroit Lions."

"It's gonna be a great game.  I don't know if the Packers are going to knock them off," Meckley says.

When you talk to those Lions fans over there. They don't seem to think so. So, why do Packers fans think differently?

"Because I'm a Packer owner.  Does it say it?  Yes!  Look at that.  He is the owner of the team by the way ladies and gentlemen.  One of, one of, one of many.  One of many," Connelly says.

But what about the Packers invading the stadium?

"They haven't been bad the past couple years but again I remember years past when the Lions weren't very good and the Packers were constantly winning the NFC North.  And any time they played here in Detroit?  It was half Packer fans, so it is what it is," Meckley says.

Are the Lions fans treating the Packers fans well?

"Yes, so far. No. Maybe not. Maybe not," Connelly says.

In a sense, this is more of a respectful rivalry than the Bears or Vikings.
