WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An 8-year-old boy who has been battling cancer for almost a year got his very own 'Make-A-Wish shopping spree Saturday at Mayfair Mall.

"This is the best day ever!" said Omere Trotter.

For the past 11 months, the boy has been battling Neuroblastoma, which is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body.

"It was his appetite that changed, he had started complaining of leg pain and back pain," his mother Stephanie Trotter said.

On the day his mother was going to take him to the hospital for a checkup, Omere Trotter collapsed, and after an emergency MRI scan, he was diagnosed with cancer.

Since then, he's had eight rounds of chemotherapy, two bone marrow transplants, and 12 sessions of radiation.

The family was told he has weeks left to live.

Saturday, however, was a happy day, all thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The 8-year-old boy made various stops inside Mayfair Mall, alongside his parents, siblings and grandmother.

He started at Build-A-Bear Workshop, then made his way to GameStop, the Apple store to buy an iPad, and later ate at The Cheesecake Factory and had his favorite frappe at Starbucks.

"He's super smart, he's super caring, super generous, he just, he's everything," said Mrs. Trotter.

Thomas Trotter, the boy's father, said it's during trying times like these that family support is everything.

"Family always gotta be first in these types of situations and yeah, just making sure you're happy and loving him the best you know, that's all we can do, and you know, continue to pray," he said.

Likewise, his mother said there's been a lot of ups and downs.

"All the emotions that's involved, all the changes that's involved, you know, financially, emotionally all of that changes," she said. "When it get(s) hard, never give up, no matter what it look(s) like."
