Man charged with battery, accused of attacking 2 MCTS drivers

MCSO

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man is in jail and facing charges, accused of attacking two Milwaukee County bus drivers the day after Christmas.

Christopher Jones, 38, is charged with two counts of battery to a public transit operator as well as battery to an elder person, since one of those drivers is over 60 years old.

Court documents say both attacks happened the day after Christmas, just before 5 a.m. near 12th and Vliet.

According to a criminal complaint, Jones boarded one bus, started talking to the driver, then began punching her while she was driving. He's accused of then pulling off her shoe and his own shoe and throwing both at her before spitting at her and getting off of the bus.

Prosecutors say Jones then got onto another bus, reached over the partition and swung at the driver, picked up a small trash can and hit her with it several times before exiting the bus.

Officers located Jones in the immediate area based on descriptions of physical features and clothing. Detectives then reviewed video from the buses involved, which show the suspect's clothing and face.

Jones is currently in jail on a $1,000 bond. The court has ordered a competency exam.
