MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Monday night, the Marcus Performing Arts Center held their own MLK Day celebration.
A one-hour concert followed a ceremony held Monday afternoon.
The ceremony, celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, highlights the youth in the community.
Students from all over the Milwaukee area take part in contests, with the themes aligning with Dr. King's words. They create their own submissions through writing, drawings and more.
"The theme for this year is what affects one person, affects us all. It's inspired by Dr. King's letters from a Burmingham jail where he talked about injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everything," said Kevin Giglinto, president and CEO of the Marcus Performing Arts Center.
The winners of the contest were showcased at the celebration.
The Marcus Performing Arts Center has celebrated Dr. King's birthday annually since 1984.
