MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Marquette University students returned to class Monday, Aug. 31 and were greeted with 400 free breakfasts donated by Sendik's Fresh 2 Go and handed out by the university president and head coaches from the men's and women's basketball teams, Shaka Smart and Cara Consuegra.

All students were welcome to grab food before classes began.

University President Kimo Ah Yun said the event was meant to help students feel connected on campus, particularly incoming freshmen who recently moved away from home.

"For many of them, about a quarter of our undergraduate class just showed up, they just moved away from home a handful of days ago," Ah Yun said. "So being able to come out to an event like this, to be able to show that we really care about them being with their friends, that's all about a way of getting them connected and making them feel belonging here at Marquette."

Men's and women's basketball coaches also shared that practice begins in three weeks, with the first game 63 days away.
