GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation has been helping in the fight against cancer for more than 50 years. So, when Packers legend Mason Crosby and his wife Molly got the life-changing news that Molly was diagnosed with lung cancer, they already knew where to turn.

"Our friends at Lombardi were the first people we reached out to. They have been alongside us through all of it," Mason told CBS 58.

The Crosbys have been involved with the foundation for nearly 20 years, from golf outings to fundraisers, but that isn't why the foundation helped.

"They would do this [the support Molly got] for anybody. The organization as a whole, if you send them your information, somebody is going to try to run something down for you. It's those types of things that have endeared us to this organization."

Mason and the now cancer free Molly will be honored Saturday, March 1 with the organization's annual award of excellence.

"To get this invitation to come back and still feel loved and important to Wisconsin is this gift," Molly says.

Mason added, "We always want to pay it forward. We're so grateful for the award, but how can we deflect from ourselves and make sure that other people are taking notice."

At an event where the Crosbys could be center stage, instead, they'll turn the attention to how people can help. You can buy tickets at LombardiFoundation.org where they'll also have a silent auction. For those who cannot help financially, there are other ways to get involved.

According to Molly, "Maybe giving a lot of money isn't your way to be on this team, but there's a way to be on the team. And there's a way to be involved. The team needs you."
