GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- After 17 seasons in the NFL, 16 with the Green Bay Packers, kicker Mason Crosby is retiring from the NFL.
Crosby was originally drafted by the Packers in 2007 in the sixth round with the 193rd overall pick.
"For me it's just like being a kid growing up in Georgetown, Texas and being drafted to this place 18 years ago, I couldn't have imagined what this feeling would feel like. It's definitely everything that I could have hoped for in the fact that I get to say that I'm going to retire a Green Bay Packer," said Crosby during his press conference in Green Bay, Friday, March 7.
During his time with the Packers, Crosby became the franchise leader in points, made field goals, 50-yard field goals, and extra points. He has 12 game-winning field goals with the Packers.
"What an amazing situation that I could be standing up here talking about being the Packers' all-time leading scorer," said Crosby. "I got to play in all these games. I got to experience all these moments. I won a Super Bowl with this organization. This is Titletown."
Crosby played 258 consecutive regular season games and 23 postseason games, the most in team history. He went 16-16 on extra points during the Packers' run to Super Bowl XLV and made three field goals in the postseason, including one in the 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"This is the ultimate team game. I couldn't have scored points, I couldn't have done any of all the other accolades without my teammates. I couldn't have done this without the training staff, without the doctors, with the support in the community," said Crosby. "The most important thing, like I said, is faith, family, football, but also whenever I came here was availability and accountability. I feel like that's what I could control all the time."
Crosby finished his career playing three games for the New York Giants in 2023. His career total of 1,939 points, 1,918 with the Packers, places him 11th all time in NFL history.
"There's no doubt in my mind that he will be in the Packers Hall of Fame one day," said outgoing Packers President Mark Murphy. "He's also, I think, had a Pro Football Hall of Fame worthy career."
On top of his football career, Mason Crosby has been very active in the community with the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish and more. He says he will continue to do so. On top of thanking family, coaches, teammates, and fans at his retirement press conference, he also shared a message on social media.
