UPDATED: 7:45 p.m., May 17

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Lake County Coroner's Office believes a human arm that was found washed up on a Waukegan, IL beach is from a woman.

The arm was discovered Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 8:36 p.m. Waukegan Police called the Coroner's Office to the scene at the Waukegan Municipal Beach, where the arm was found by a person walking on the beach.

The Coroner's Office described it as "a right human arm, mostly intact."

The identity of the remains is still unknown while DNA tests are being performed.

A forensic pathologist examined the arm Monday, May 13, and another examination with a forensic anthropologist has been scheduled to likely confirm the gender and age range.

The Coroner's Office tells us "The Coroner’s Office is working closely with a police department in a neighboring state on an on-going investigation in that jurisdiction. DNA samples will be submitted to that department’s crime laboratory to aid in identification and in regard to their investigation."

On Thursday, May 16, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office told us they are aware of the discovery and are in touch with authorities there.

Though the identity of the arm is still unknown, MCSO notified Sade Robinson's family of the discovery.

Waukegan police told us "We did an extensive search of the area for several days and have not located anything else, nor does this match any cases we are working on."
