MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has provided additional details about the victim who was reportedly run over by a MPD squad car on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Hayley Amber Linville.
ME officials confirm the police report that Linville was reported to be acting erratically and was lying in the street when a squad car ran over her. She was taken to a hospital before being pronounced dead in the emergency room.
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A person is dead after being hit by a Milwaukee Police Department squad car on the city's south side.
It happened just before 11 a.m. Tuesday on S. 20th street near S. Comstock Ave.
Milwaukee police say the person was laying down in the entrance of that alley, when the officer hit them.
According to MPD, the officer was called to the area for a welfare check of a person who was walking in and out of the street.
Assistant Chief Nicole Waldner said the officer was checking the area, when they struck the person, who was on the ground right at the alley's entryway.
The person was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. They have not yet been identified.
MPD said the officer is a 44-year-old man with over 18 years of service. He has been been placed on administrative duty during the investigation.
Neighbors were outside watching the scene all afternoon, as a large portion of S. 20th St. remained closed throughout the day.
One neighbor told CBS 58, she's upset, saying she sees cars speeding in the area daily - even police officers.
"This is a residential area. There's kids walking around, there's senior citizens in this area, people crossing the street, and the police going through, anybody can get hit. Look what happened today," said Rebecca Nunez, who lives near the scene.
MPD has not said if speeding was a factor in this incident. It's still unclear why the individual was laying in the road.
"I'm going to be honest that at this time, very little is known until there's further investigation," Waldner said.
The Waukesha Police Department is leading the investigation, through the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team.
