GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County medical examiner says a woman died Monday evening, Jan. 8, after she was hit by a car near 92nd and Waterford Square in the city of Greenfield.

The ME's office said they're holding off on giving the victim's age until they can notify her family.

On one side of the street is an apartment complex, on the other side is an assisted living facility.

When our crews arrived, they spoke with a man who works at the assisted living facility. He said when the woman was hit, he raced over to see if he could help her. But he said there was not much he could do, that she did not look good.

We asked him if he thought the woman lived at the assisted living facility and he said no, or he would have recognized her.

He also said it is not a stretch of road that gets a lot of walkers.

It is a busy road, especially during rush hour, and officers had to divert hundreds of cars through a nearby neighborhood for several hours while 92nd remained shut down.

A Greenfield police captain told us the department will share more information as soon as they're able.
