Mega Millions to introduce new $5 game format with updated features

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Lottery has announced changes to the Mega Millions game beginning Saturday, April 5. The cost of each play will increase from $2 to $5 as part of a change aimed at larger and more frequent jackpots.

Under the new format, every play will include a randomly assigned Multiplier between 2X and 10X at no additional cost.

The starting jackpot will increase to $50 million, according to the Wisconsin Lottery, and the smallest prize will double to $10. Players can still pick five numbers plus a Mega Ball or use the Quick Pick option.

The final drawing under the current format will take place Friday, April 4. Drawings continue on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m.
