Mequon girl living in a dream after being gifted sneakers from Giannis
Christmas came early for a young Mequon girl thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Bucks superstar gifted her his game-worn sneakers after Sunday's win against the Indiana Pacers.
Tess Lueck, 9, was so shocked all she could do was hug her grandpa, but Giannis picked her up so they could take a picture together.
The video of the encounter went viral.
"I was just so in shock," Tess said. "I just kind of froze. He could've picked thousands and thousands of people and he picked me. I thought that was really cool."
Tess says she felt like she was in a dream the rest of the night.
She brought the sneakers in bed with her, and of course, she tried them on.
Giannis wears a size 16, but ask Laura Lueck, Tess's mother, and she says the MVP's heart is much bigger than his foot.
"This whole summer [Tess] watched videos of the Bucks and Giannis and it's just like he's a hero to her," Laura said. "We loved him already but now I think we love him even a little bit more."
That's why the sneakers, the picture they got and the viral video are all the cherry on top of what Giannis has already meant to their family.
"He's like one of the best NBA players and that really inspired me to start [playing] basketball," Tess said. "I just started this year."
Laura is thankful Giannis has been such a good role model for her daughter and for Milwaukee.
The Luecks plan to put the sneakers behind glass so they'll forever stay the way they were received: unwashed, a little smelly, perfect.
