MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon, to celebrate the completion of a project that transforms a one-mile section of the Little Menomonee River Parkway on the northwest side.
The area from W. Leon Terrace to W. Appleton Avenue is now a dedicated off-street walking and biking trail.
County Supervisor Deanna Alexander says this kind of conversion is a way to connect neighborhoods.
"And when we're able to connect our neighborhoods so that it is easy to walk out your front door, ride your bike, take a walk with your family and enjoy the outdoors, we have the ability to keep our neighborhoods, our families, our community connected and to grow stronger together," Supervisor Alexander said.
This Milwaukee County Parks project is designed to enhance safety and encourage healthy lifestyles. It's also meant to reduce maintenance costs from illegal dumping by limiting the kinds of vehicles that can use the trail.
