MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The city of Milwaukee has been found in contempt of court for not meeting a Milwaukee County's judge's deadline to get school resource officers back at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).

The contempt is being stayed for the next two weeks to give the city another chance at meeting the court's requirements.

The ruling came Thursday, Feb. 27, in what's been a lengthy process that's frustrating the presiding Milwaukee County judge.

Feb. 27 was the deadline set by Judge David Borowski for MPS and the city to -- at a minimum -- have officers enrolled in school resource officer training. But a motion was filed by the city seeking to delay that deadline, saying they don't even plan on wrapping up the application process until March 3.

Thursday, Judge Borowsky expressed frustration over the fact that while MPS has held emergency meetings within the last 10 days, working to hit his deadline, the city keeps trying to "run out the clock."

The city of Milwaukee will be fined $1,000 each day the city does not comply with the court order to have SRO's in school.

They have two weeks to comply with the order if they want those fines to be forgiven.
