MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are searching for a suspect involved in the fatal hit-and-run of 74-year-old Vietnam veteran Larry Markiewicz early Sunday morning. Markiewicz's family and friends shared how he'll be remembered.

"They took a good man from us," said Markiewicz's stepdaughter, Denise Derosia.

Derosia described her stepfather as a good and caring man.

Markiewicz was a Vietnam veteran and was supposed to be honored with the Quilt of Honor by the AMVETS 60. His friend of 30 years, Jean Ruka, shared the impact the 74-year-old made in his community.

"He gave so much to society, not only during time of war, but also in peace time, in our daily living," said Ruka, commander of AMVETS 60.

Officials said the crash occurred around 12:05 a.m. on April 23 near 67th and Capitol.

One driver was speeding eastbound on W. Capitol Dr. when they collided with another vehicle that was also traveling eastbound. This tragedy was caught on surveillance footage. In one angle, the surveillance video shows the moment the suspect walks away from the scene.

Milwaukee police are still looking for the suspect involved, and they are asking anyone with any information to call 414-935-7360.

If you want to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS or use the P3 Tips app.

If your information leads to an arrest, you'll get a cash reward.
