MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting on 29th and Courtland that left one dead Sunday night, April 17. 

The victim was identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office as 17-year-old Teonna Covington. 

Family of Teonna Covington said she just celebrated her 17th birthday on April 4 and leaves behind a 1-month-old baby.

The 17-year-old was shot and later died of her injuries on Sunday after a road rage incident turned deadly. She was in the passenger seat during the shooting. The driver was taken to the hospital for injuries.

Covington was a junior at Bay View High School and was the baby of the family. She leaves behind her son, named Keywon. Her cousin Shaniel Sawyer describes her cousin as very outgoing, yet quiet and observant. She loved to dance and have a good time while also protecting her family.

MPD said they are still investigating the shooting and looking for the suspects.

Meantime, Milwaukee Public Schools released the following statement: 

“Milwaukee Public Schools joins our Bay View school community in mourning the loss of Teonna Covington. Teonna’s ambition and friendly nature were among the few things that stood out to her principal, teachers, and classmates. We offer our sincerest condolences to Teonna’s family, friends, and everyone who has been affected by her passing.”
