Milwaukee Public Museum hosts Native American Heritage Month events

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum is scheduled to host events in November to celebrate Native American Heritage Month, featuring programming, exhibitions and free admission days.

Presented in partnership with Potawatomi Casino Hotel, the events aim to offer opportunities to learn about Indigenous peoples, according to a Tuesday, Oct. 29 press release.

Wisconsin Tribal members receive free museum admission during the month.

On Friday, Nov. 1, all visitors receive free admission for Isabel Bader Community Free Day. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Ho-Chunk drum group Little Priest will perform songs and powwow dances.

Thursday, Nov. 7 is Kohl’s Thank You Thursday with free admission and educational stations about Native American cultures. That evening, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the museum will screen "Light the Path," a film about Indian Community School in Franklin.

On Thursday, Nov. 14 from 5:30 to 9 p.m., a Native American Heritage Month Dinner will feature Indigenous cuisine by Ketapanen Kitchen. The following Thursday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., a virtual lecture on the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act will be held.
