Milwaukee Public School Board faces pressure from some parents to fire superintendent
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public School Board was under fire Tuesday night as parents called for the superintendent to be fired.
Some say there's been years of problems under his leadership.
A lively group of parents showed up at Tuesday's special school board meeting with a laundry list of complaints against Dr. Keith Posley.
Outspoken and fed up, parents showed up with signs in hand, wanting to be heard.
"Keith Posley needs to go," said Beverly Hamilton-Williams. "His administration needs to go. There are too many issues being ignored by this school district that hinder the success of Milwaukee's children."
Only two items on this agenda: litigation against the district and a performance evaluation for the superintendent of schools, who's held his job since 2018.
"This administration is responsible for the things that they did and that they knew were wrong," said Debbie Kuether, MPS director of literacy.
Kuether identifies herself as one of the MPS whistleblowers.
"Even when it was brought to their attention, they still proceeded on a path of illegal choice."
Some of their complaints include misappropriated funds, violence on school property and non-addressed bullying.
The board retreated to closed session, with the audience questioning, why not be transparent?
Parents want new board members who they say will listen to them and vote Posley out.
"They need an audit, big time," said Sheila Thompkins, parent. "When was the last time the schools checked the ventilations? When was the last time they checked for lead in the water pipes?"
"There's no accountability, none whatsoever to the community," said Hamilton-Williams. "And then they sit back and they wonder, well gosh, we have so much violence out here. What kind of programming are they giving the students in Milwaukee Public Schools?"
We spoke with an MPS spokesperson earlier, who said to contact the Office of Governance. We have not received a response from anyone there.
