Milwaukee Repertory Theater unveils world premiere of 'Parental Advisory' by Idris Goodwin

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Repertory Theater has announced "Parental Advisory: a breakbeat play," authored by award-winning playwright Idris Goodwin. This production is part of the theater's 70th Anniversary Season.

Scheduled to premiere on Monday, Sept. 26, the show will run through Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Stiemke Studio.

This new work, commissioned through the John (Jack) D. Lewis New Play Development Program fuses hip-hop culture, humor and historical context on censorship.

Goodwin, known for being featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, has enjoyed a career of accolades, including a 2021 United States Artist Fellowship.

The play stars Amir Abdullah as The MC and Marvin Quijada as Timeless, with Kyle Haden as the director. It aims to explore questions about censorship and self-expression in music and art.

Tickets for the play are available for purchase on the theater's website, through the Ticket Office at (414) 224-9490 or in person at 108 E. Wells Street.
