Boy, 14, charged in deadly hit-and-run during Harley Homecoming in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee boy is facing multiple charges following a hit-and-run crash that killed a 31-year-old motorcyclist in the Walker's Point neighborhood.

The 14-year-old boy faces five felony charges, including first-degree reckless homicide. CBS 58 News is not identifying the teen because he is a minor.

The incident took place on Saturday, June 27, around 6:40 p.m. near 1st and Walker.

According to a criminal complaint released on Tuesday, Aug. 6, the teen--who isn't even old enough to get behind a wheel-- was already known to Milwaukee police for allegedly committing robberies and stealing cars.

The complaint states he admitted to stealing a silver Hyundai Elantra with his friend and robbing a family that had attended German Fest.

Police said the suspect threatened the family with a gun and stole a phone and a wallet. He then proceeded to drive around Milwaukee's south side with his friend, when an officer spotted them. They began to drive at an extremely fast rate, disregarding stop signs, when they crashed into 31-year-old motorcyclist Marc Jones near 1st and Walker.

Jones had been visiting the Milwaukee area for the city's annual Harley-Davidson Homecoming, and authorities said at the time, motorcycle traffic was heavy due to the annual event.

Unfortunately, Jones later died in the hospital from multiple blunt force injuries. Police said the suspects fled the scene. At his first court appearance Tuesday, the judge agreed with the state's recommendation of a cash bail bond.

"For the safety of the community, I am going to order the high cash that the state has recommended in the amount of $200,000 with pre-trial supervision level 5. I am also going to order you not to possess or use any dangerous weapons or firearms, and no driving, whatsoever," the judge said.

The Jones family told CBS 58 News on Tuesday that a funeral service will take place this Friday, Aug. 9. Jones' mother, Marsha Jones, said that although nothing will bring their son back, they are happy the teen is caught, and glad Milwaukee is doing its part in bringing the family justice for their loss.

The teen is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, vehicle operator flee/elude officer resulting in death, hit-and-run resulting in death, knowingly operating a vehicle without a valid license causing death and operating a vehicle without the owner's consent.

The boy faces up to life in prison if he's convicted in adult court, and up to $220,000 in fines.
