MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For soccer fans, the World Cup is a not just a tournament. It’s a celebration that brings together fans from all walks of life.

One South Milwaukee pub is being recognized as one of the best places in America to watch it all unfold.

“Here at Moran’s, we’re just taking it game by game,” said James Moran, owner of Moran’s.

The flags catch your eye first. Outside the building. Inside the building. Hanging from the ceiling and the walls.

“As I was entering, I was looking at like all of the different scarves and flags for soccer and it just like, makes me happy,” said Arthur Tanguy, who was visiting from France.

At Moran’s Pub, the World Cup isn’t just on TV. It’s everywhere.

“I’m just excited to come here and put the games on and inject my enthusiasm into the crowd,” said Moran.

Moran grew up in England, where the love of soccer spanned generations.

“Just talk about those stories, the old soccer games I used to go to and what I used to enjoy when I was in Birmingham City,” said Moran.

Now, years later, fans are coming to his pub, ranked by USA Today as one of the top five places in the nation to watch a World Cup game.

“So we’ve got people coming here from Illinois,” said Moran.

Some fans found a slice of home here, across the ocean.

“There was no way of me missing the first game of France,” said Tanguy.

So no matter who you’re rooting for, sometimes the game isn’t just about winning.

“That’s a T-shirt from 2016, and this is the one from 2018, so I really hope I can buy a new one, the third star on the jersey,” said Tanguy. “Really cool that soccer is just spreading in different countries and that we can still enjoy this.”

It’s about bringing people together and a city in Wisconsin getting the chance to shine.

“It was unbelievable just to see the kids and the adults. I mean, the fans of different countries, everybody coming together,” said Moran. “Special things can happen in small communities.”
