Single mother left homeless after house fire in West Milwaukee

WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) — A mother and her two children are now homeless after a fire ripped through their home in West Milwaukee.

On Saturday evening Whitney got a call on her way home from work. That's when she got the news that she didn't have a house to come home to.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but Whitney says it started in the kitchen. She rented this house on 52nd and Greenfield but didn't have renters' insurance.

Whitney says it has been the hardest on her children.

"My son just keeps asking when we can come home, and I keep having to tell him we probably won't be coming back to this home. That's been really difficult," said Whitney Babaian.

Thankfully no one was home at the time of the fire.

Right now, she is looking for a two-bedroom apartment or a duplex and asking for donations of clothing, shoes, and children's toys.
