Mount Pleasant leaders approve Microsoft lots allowing for up to 15 more data centers
MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Mount Pleasant leaders are moving forward with plans to build more than a dozen data centers.
The village board has approved site plans for two locations around Highway 11 that would hold 15 data centers built by Microsoft.
If Microsoft meets requirements, the company can apply for building permits and construction can begin on nine of the data centers south of Highway 11.
Another vote from the board is expected before construction can begin on the six additional data centers north of Highway 11.
Craig Stocks lives on Old Highway 11, which runs horizontal with Highway 11, and finds himself in the middle of the two pieces of land.
"If you step across the street from my mailbox, that's Microsoft property," Stocks said. "I'm the last missing link here in the middle."
Stocks works in construction and has worked on his own to fill out his property over the last five to six years. He's open to being paid to move, but also not looking forward to the possibility of having a data center campus running across the street.
"If I don't get paid off for that, I feel like I'm getting screwed," Stocks said. "If they want to give us a fair dollar value for the property that we own and established, so be it, as long as it's fair and profitable."
