CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a suspect was arrested Tuesday, in connection to threats made on social media toward a Bay View High School walkout planned for Wednesday.
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) asked organizers to cancel the walkout after the threat was reported, saying in a statement:
"The threat made a reference to gun violence directed at the walkout itself, not at the school or school building. MPD is working with other law enforcement agencies to bring in the person who allegedly made the threat."
The statement goes on to say the suspect is not a student.
MPS says they "continue to support the rights of students to share their views" but asked organizers to cancel the event out of an "abundance of caution."
Student organizers say they plan to proceed with the walkout, according to the high school.
Milwaukee police say they'll continue to monitor the safety of participants. Criminal charges will be referred to the DA's office.
