CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a suspect was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 10, for social media threats over a student-organized walkout at Bay View High School Wednesday.

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) asked organizers to cancel the walkout after the threat was reported, saying in a statement:

"The threat made a reference to gun violence directed at the walkout itself, not at the school or school building. MPD is working with other law enforcement agencies to bring in the person who allegedly made the threat."

The statement goes on to say the suspect is not a student.

MPS says they "continue to support the rights of students to share their views."

Student organizers proceeded with the walkout, with Milwaukee police monitoring the safety of participants.

Criminal charges will be referred to the DA's office.
