FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) — Multiple people have been arrested and four stolen firearms have been recovered as part of an ongoing vehicle theft investigation in Fond du Lac.

According to the Fond du Lac Police Department, the investigation began July 5 when officers responded to the 600 block of S. Marr St. for a report of juveniles entering a vehicle and damaging a cell phone.

During that investigation, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and placed in secure detention for possession of a stolen firearm.

Investigators later determined the teen may have been connected to several recent vehicle entries and thefts throughout the city.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified additional suspects and executed a search warrant July 14 at a residence in the 600 block of S. Main St., where they recovered stolen property that linked multiple individuals to the investigation.

Additional investigative work led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office. He was transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail on a charge of possession of a stolen firearm.

Detectives later developed information leading them to Beaver Dam, where a 17-year-old boy was arrested on a possession of a stolen firearm charge.

Following that arrest, the Beaver Dam Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence, arresting a 19-year-old woman on a probation/parole hold related to the investigation. During the search, officers recovered two firearms that had been stolen from Fond du Lac.

In total, investigators recovered four stolen firearms along with additional property connected to recent vehicle entries and thefts.

"These arrests and the recovery of stolen firearms are the direct result of persistent investigative work and strong partnerships with our neighboring law enforcement agencies," Lt. Nick Hahn said. "By working together and following every lead, we were able to identify those responsible, recover dangerous stolen firearms, and make our community safer."

Hahn also thanked community members for reporting suspicious activity and encouraged residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and promptly report suspicious behavior.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information is expected to be released until after the suspects' initial court appearances.
