RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- New details about the New Year's Eve party at Rerun's Lounge in Racine that turned fatal have emerged, according to one man who claims to have been injured in the deadly shootout.

66-year-old Avery "Rerun" Stewart, the owner of the bar, and 56-year-old Billy Petty were killed just hours into 2023.

Now, a third Racine man has come forward with his story on a scene that police called "chaotic."

Nakia Shannon said he entered the party with his daughter around 1:30 a.m.

“We walked inside the bar. Rerun told me 100 dollars. I went to the ATM, got the money and paid him," Shannon said.

About 10 or so minutes later, Shannon said multiple fights began breaking out between some of his friends and some of Petty's friends, including one involving his daughter.

“One of the lady's swings on my daughter and my daughter swings back and Billy went to swing on my daughter, and I stepped in front and said, 'hey, that’s my daughter.' He reached inside his holster and pulled a gun out and put it at the top of my shirt," Shannon said, recalling that he took it as his cue to leave.

As he turned to Rerun to get his money back, Shannon said that Petty continued to come closer.

“We stood to leave again and Billy walks up again and pulls the gun out on me again," Shannon said. “Rerun comes and pulls me to the side. At this time, Billy stands maybe a foot or two beside me and he cocks his gun, and he raises up at me.”

Shannon said Rerun was going to try and calm down Petty and other patrons but by then it was too late.

“This time Billy comes closer, and he swings, and a bullet goes off. Goes through my face, the top of my mouth is torn up, my tooth is broken. I have a fragment in my face as you can see, and it hits Rerun and Rerun says, 'I’m sorry' and hits the floor and dies," Shannon said.

But when he began yelling for the bartender to get help, Shannon remembers hearing another shot.

"Somebody else shoots and hits Billy," Shannon said.

Now, Racine police are searching for 24-year-old Abdullah Rashada, a man wanted for questioning regarding the homicide.

Shannon, who calls Rashada "AJ", said he believes Rashada acted in defense.

“That young man did what he felt was right for the people he knew or cared about to protect them," Shannon said, adding that he wanted to bring his voice to the news so the story could be told "right."

“I wish nobody harm to anybody. Billy Petty's family, I send my condolences to them, Rerun's like a family member," Shannon said. “But that guy, they’re making him seem like a criminal but if that was somebody else in a different atmosphere, he’d be a hero.”

Officials ask that if you have any information, to contact them immediately.
