MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The family of a young man involved in a hit and run a few months ago received a generous surprise Tuesday.
A non-profit helped furnish the home of the family with new furniture and other essentials.
According to the non-profit, the family had been sleeping on the floor and has had nowhere to sit.
Herbert Haywood, the leader of a non-profit that mentors young men, met Terrance Wash in a chance encounter.
Terrance has a learning disability and connected with Herbert in that both were bullied as kids. Herbert has been helping him since.
"For me to have a family and kids...I wouldn't want to see anybody else sleeping on the floor," Haywood said. "So I wanted to make sure I could help as much as I could."
The non-profit says today's donation is about $1,000 worth of furniture, clothes and other items. Everything given to the family was donated by the community.
