Oconomowoc 11-year-old one of 3 finalists for US Women’s Open Golf championship poster design competition
ERIN, Wis. – The 80th U.S. Women’s Open came to Erin Hills in the Town of Erin from May 29 to June 1, but an 11-year-old from Oconomowoc was already a champion before the event began.
Harper Hammen, 11, of Oconomowoc was one of the winners of the Youth Poster Design Contest which was launched for the 80th U.S. Women’s Open.
“I love doing art and it’s mixed with golf and it’s kinda two things that are important to me,” Hammen told CBS 58.
Three winners were chosen, including Hammen. Their designs will be displayed on-site at the 80th U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis. from May 29-June 1, 2025.
“To show my art for people that aren’t my family is super exciting for me,” Hammen said.
Salie Barie, a staff member with USGA, said the contest serves to celebrate and showcase the artwork of talented youths ages 17 and under throughout the country and involve them with the championship. Submissions were judged based on creativity and originality.
“She pulled in a lot of Erin Hills specific items to her art, which really was a cherry on top for this competition,” Barie said. “One of our missions with the USGA is to grow the game. That starts at the youngest level, with youth, through this competition.”
Hammen said she was excited about the opportunity to meet some of her favorite golfers.
“I really wanna meet Nellie Corta,” Hammen said.
