WATERTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) --- The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a 52-year-old man and 16-year-old boy on Saturday, April 17. The incident happened in the near Country Lane and Sweetbriar in Watertown.

A woman who lives across the street from the home says the whole neighborhood is in shock. She says she knew the victims in passing and says they were nice people.

“I did see a lot of people going in, taking bags out, the police, and the van that said the crime scene investigation so I knew it was very serious," Amy Durand said.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office was called out to help Watertown Police around 3:40 a.m. early Saturday morning..

“We believe everyone is accounted for and unfortunately it’s these two individuals, both are deceased," Sheriff Dale Schmidt said.

Investigators believe the 52-year-old man killed the 16-year-old boy and then killed himself.

“When people pass away in your neighborhood, it’s difficult for all of us, I’m sure we’re all worried," Durand said.

Sheriff Schmidt says this incident is out of the ordinary in that neighborhood.

“It’s a tragedy, it’s a difficult situation for all us, for the family members, we trying to be as cognizant of them contacting their family," he said.

Officials say there is no threat to the community, but Durand says everyone is still in disbelief.

“On a day like this you would see people walking their dogs and talking to each other, right now, we’re all just kind of shocked," she said.

According to police, names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Scene Unit and the Dodge County Medical Examiner's Office assisted investigations.

This is an active investigation and no further information is available at the time.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
