Packers, Brewers, Bucks partner for third 'Flight of Champions' to honor veterans

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Three of Wisconsin's major sports teams, the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks, are collaborating to sponsor the third "Flight of Champions" through Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.

This event, set for Saturday, Oct. 7, will honor 217 veterans from southeastern and east central Wisconsin with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Planes carrying veterans, guardians and representatives from each pro sports team will depart early Saturday morning from Green Bay's Austin-Straubel International Airport and Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport.

The veterans will spend the day touring multiple memorials in Washington, including the WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans Memorials, with all of the participating veterans having served in, or during, these three conflicts.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend the Homecoming parades at both airports, also taking place on Saturday. The Green Bay plane is expected to arrive around 7:30 p.m., while the two Milwaukee planes are slated for around 8 p.m. and 9:20 p.m.
