Packers don't mind picking lower in NFL Draft

CBS 58

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers don't have a first round pick in the NFL Draft, they traded that pick away in the Micah Parsons deal last season. But they're very used to picking in the later portions of most rounds. The last time they had a top ten overall pick was in 2009 with BJ Raji taken 9th overall.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says it's the way they do things in Green Bay.

"Certainly picking higher is always better," Gutekunst said. "You know as far as finding talent. I'd love to be picking 32nd every year. But I've always and you guys know there are good players to be found throughout this draft. There are great players to be found throughout the draft. So it's something we're used to around here."

Gutekunst is first to admit with eight picks in rounds 2-7, he's likely to add more overall and maybe move around.

"If we end up waiting 51 picks before we pick? That will be a long time," Gutekunst says. "Hopefully I will have the patience if I do that. But not unlike any other draft. We will have some players that we will talk about going up to get. There will be opportunities to move back as well."

Some of the positions to look for include cornerback, defensive tackle and edge rusher.

It could be a defensive-heavy draft.
