Packers' offseason plans come together
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) - The Packers are getting down to business as the summer approaches. The draft and rookie minicamp have come and gone, and the team's offseason workout program continues with organized team activities in a few weeks.
On defense, the Packers are hoping to put past mistakes and disappointments behind them. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has praised free agent signee Xavier McKinney with helping to bring about a new culture on defense.
"What a pro," Hafley says in praise of McKinney. "How hard he works, the communication, how he is in the meeting rooms, the way he looks out for the other guys... that's the stuff you don't see, you don't find out really about somebody and who they are and how hard they work until they get here. Great pro, great attitude, great effort."
The Packers signed 24-year-old McKinney to a four-year contract at the start of free agency.
The Packers offense is building off some momentum from the second half of last season thanks to the emergence of quarterback Jordan Love. But right now, there's another Jordan creating buzz - offensive lineman and first round draft pick Jordan Morgan, who wants to be the Packers starting left tackle
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich says Morgan is "a natural on the edge. He looks comfortable out there. There's obviously some technique stuff we've got to clean up, just like anybody... I wouldn't say he's a tackle, I wouldn't say he's a guard, just want to see where he fits best for us."
The full team hits the practice field for organized team activities on May 20.
