Person, dog dead after early morning house fire in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person and a dog died in a house fire on Pershing Ave. in Sheboygan early Monday, May 11, according to the Sheboygan Fire Department.

Firefighters responded just after midnight after a passerby reported seeing smoke and hearing alarms. Crews forced entry and found heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen and stairway area.

The victim was found during an interior search.

The fire was extinguished within minutes of crews arriving. The cause is under investigation.

The fire department also issued a public safety message when reporting the fatal fire, urging residents to install smoke alarms on every level of the home, and to test them monthly while changing batteries annually.
