VILLAGE OF WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead after a vehicle hit a person along Highway 164, in the Village of Waukesha. 

Officials responded to the crash at Lawnsdale Road on Monday, July 6, at around 2:07 p.m. 

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office say the victim died at the scene as a result of the crash. 

Due to the crash, Southbound Highway 164 is closed at Wilmont Lane and will remain closed for a prolonged period of time while the Sheriff's Office investigates.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
