Pewaukee man who died hiking in Grand Canyon identified as retired Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputy

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. (CBS 58) -- A Pewaukee man died while hiking on a trail in the Grand Canyon, according to officials. 

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department confirmed the man that died is Deputy Scott McDonnell

The National Park Service (NPS) said it happened Friday, Feb. 17 at approximately 3 p.m. 

The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of an unresponsive hiker on the Bright Angel Trail. 

NPS search and rescue arrived at the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. and pronounced the individual deceased. 

Officials say the hiker is a 56-year-old man from Pewaukee, Wisconsin. 

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the NPS in coordination with the medical examiner.
