WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Legislature is working to update the state's Amber Alert system.
In October of 2023, 5-year-old Prince McCree was murdered in Milwaukee after being reported missing.
The Milwaukee Police Department said he did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
McCree's death prompted Milwaukee Senator LaTonya Johnson to call for a system on a local level to send alerts to people's phones nearby when a child goes missing.
On Monday, Jan. 29, the Protection and Recovery Involving Non-located Children Endangered, or the PRINCE Act, was proposed.
It would send alerts to people's phones nearby when a child goes missing.
The act has bipartisan support.
