Racine Co. Sheriff's Office warns public of phone scams involving law enforcement impersonation
RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office is warning the public after discovering a phone scam involving people posing as law enforcement.
They say the callers identify themselves as a sergeant or deputy with the Racine County Sheriff's Office, and threaten to arrest people if they don't wire over money.
The callers are said to make up violations, one of which was reported to be failure to register as a sex offender.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community to never give out personal banking information or social security numbers to anyone asking or threatening for information over the phone.
The department says they will never threaten an arrest or force anyone to provide information via telephone.
