Director Edson Melendez will be holding open auditions at the Racine Theatre Guild About the Show: Jamie Escalante’s mission was to challenge his students to reach their full potential in and out of his classroom. When he is assigned to an inner-city school with a reputation of gangs, drugs, and dropouts, his offbeat teaching methods and quirky humor motivate his math students. Together, the students set a goal to take the Advanced Placement Calculus Test and pass. Based on a true underdog story, this urban fairy tale is a story of perseverance in the face of adversity. Roles available for: Large, diverse cast of men, women, and teens ages 16+, especially actors of Hispanic/Latinx origin including Afro-Caribbean Latinx cultures, or familiar with the Spanish language or Chicano culture Auditions: No experience necessary! Only have to attend one night of auditions which consist of a cold reading of the script. Show Run: weekends April 14 – 22, along with daytime school outreach performances on April 18, 20, 25 and 26
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 Director Doug Instenes will be holding auditions. Call to schedule an audition time. About the Show: Attend the tale of a barber wrongly convicted and out for vengeance against the corrupt judge who sent him to prison and tore his family apart. The heart-pounding musical thriller by the late Stephen Sondheim pulsates as Sweeney Todd wields his weapons of choice: a razor and a barber chair. His path towards retribution leads him to Mrs. Lovett’s meat pie shop, where they plot to combine his thirst for blood and her need for a secret ingredient. A savory, theatrical treat, revenge has never tasted like this! Roles available for: Teens and Adults, ages 15+ Auditions: No experience necessary! Prepare a song and bring sheet music.
