SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Crews pulled a man's body from the Sheboygan River just before noon Tuesday at Rotary Riverfront Park.

Witnesses reported seeing a man jump into the river Monday night just after 7 p.m.

That's when crews with the U.S. Coast Guard, Wisconsin DNR, Sheboygan Fire Department, and the Sheboygan County Sheriff's office began a search.

"We tried some rescue efforts for about an hour-and-a-half, two hours, unsuccessfully," said Fire Chief Eric Montellano.

Crews couldn't find anyone Monday, and called the search off due to darkness.

They resumed Tuesday morning.

"There were a lot of branches underneath, a lot of obstacles, and we didn't want our divers to get injured, so it's a lot easier to do it during the daylight," Montellano said.

Crews found the body -- identified as 25-year-old Lee Lor of Sheboygan -- Tuesday near the boardwalk using sonar technology.

"We don't really see a lot of drownings. If we do, it's way out there. Not right on the deck," said resident, Sierra Gill. "When it's crazy like this and the currents are going, it can take you away."

As of now, it's unclear why the person jumped into the river.

Officials want to remind the public that water can be dangerous, especially when it's very cold.

"When you dive into cold water, your body reacts immediately and systems shut down because it's a shock to the system," Montellano said.

The investigation is now in the hands of the Sheboygan Police Department, who will contact the person's family.

Authorities say someone called 911 to report a man in distress after jumping into the water.
